December is a month filled with celebration, reflection and opportunities to honor the people and moments that shape our school community. As we move into the holiday season, we’re excited to highlight several meaningful recognition days that help us learn, remember and connect as a district family.

National Special Education Day — December 2nd

National Special Education Day marks the anniversary of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), the federal law that ensures students with disabilities receive the services and support they need to learn and thrive.

This day gives us the opportunity to recognize the dedication of our special education teachers, instructional aides, related service providers and families who work together every day to support students’ growth. It also celebrates the strength, resilience and unique talents of students who receive special education services.

We are proud to reaffirm our commitment to inclusive practices and to creating learning environments where EVERY child is valued and supported.

Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day — December 7th

On December 7, we pause to honor the lives lost and the bravery shown during the attack on Pearl Harbor in 1941. This solemn day serves as a moment of reflection and gratitude for the men and women who served our country during World War II.

While our students may learn about this event in their history classes, as a school community we also use this day to emphasize the importance of remembrance, service and understanding the sacrifices made throughout our nation’s past.

National Ugly Sweater Day — December 19th

Bringing fun and cheer to the season, National Ugly Sweater Day invites students, staff and families to pull out their most festive, flashy, or fabulously ridiculous holiday sweaters.

While this celebration is all in good fun, it also encourages school spirit, creativity and joy—something we all benefit from as we approach winter break. Whether it’s jingling bells, light-up reindeer, or classic knitted snowflakes, it’s a day designed to bring smiles across campus.

Christmas Break — December 22nd - January 6th

As we reach the heart of the holiday season, Christmas Eve and Christmas Day provide families an opportunity to celebrate traditions, faith, cultural heritage and time together.

For many within our school community, these days are filled with gatherings, generosity and the joy of connecting with loved ones.

We also want to remind families that Christmas Break for the district begins with a 1:00 p.m. early release on Friday, December 19th and continues through Tuesday, January 6th.

Classes will resume for students on Wednesday, January 7th.

We hope the break offers everyone much-needed rest, time with loved ones and a joyful holiday season.

A Season of Learning, Reflection & Celebration

December gives us a beautiful mix of remembrance, recognition and fun. Whether we are honoring the legacy of Pearl Harbor, celebrating the achievements of students receiving special education services or sharing a laugh over an unforgettable holiday sweater, each day reminds us of the strength of our school community.

At Clifton ISD, we are grateful for our students, staff and families and wish you all a wonderful and joyful holiday season.
