Dear Parents and Families,
Your child took the State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness (STAAR®) earlier this spring, and has received their results. The state assessment is one of many ways to measure student learning. Teachers will use STAAR results along with other information to support your child’s learning in the new school year.
As a reminder, beginning in late April TELPAS Alternate Scores were posted. The majority of assessments became available in June with STAAR End-of-Course assessments on June 10th, June 12thTELPAS assessments, June 17th for STAAR grades 3–8 assessments, and June 24th STAAR Alternate 2 assessments. Students who participated in June STAAR EOC assessments will have their scores released in Parent Portal on July 31st.
You will be able to access your child’s STAAR results by logging into our district's parent portal or the Family Portal on the Texas Assessment website. (Click on Texas Assessment link below). This will take you directly to your child’s STAAR results, which will include detailed information for each test question, identifying your child’s strengths as well as areas where they may need additional support. Families have shared that seeing which questions their child got right and wrong has been the most useful. You will also see easy-to-use resources to help your child focus on the skills they most need help with and can work on at home.
In accordance with HB1416, any student who did not attain at least approaches in grade 3 math or reading is assigned 30-hours of accelerated instruction for each subject area they were unsuccessful in. Students in Grades 4-12 that were unsuccessful in their state assessments will be assigned between 15 and 30-hours of accelerated instruction to support their success. This remediation includes, but is not limited to: summer school (invited in June), intervention periods, tutorials, lab and end of course class periods at the secondary level. Parents will be provided information on their child's acceleration participation and plan during registration July 29th - 31st.
In accordance with SB2124, any student who scored in the top 40th percentile on their Grade 5 Mathematics test is automatically placed in the advanced mathematics pathway in Grade 6. The Middle School Advanced Mathematics Program has been developed to increase the number of students who complete advanced mathematics courses in high school.
