What is the FAFSA and how does it work?

Filling out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid, or FAFSA, is one of the most important steps students and their families can take to pay for college.

TASFA (Texas Application for State Financial Aid)
When applying for federal or state financial aid with the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), you must be a U.S. citizen, U.S. national, or an eligible non-citizen. NOTE: Undocumented students don't qualify for federal financial aid and are not able to submit a federal FAFSA.
TASFA is for non-citizens who are classified as Texas residents.
If you are a foreign student or non-citizen, you may be eligible to be classified as a Texas resident for tuition purposes. If so, you may also be eligible to receive state financial aid.
